NGLCC Participates in Launch of U.S. Department Of Labor's New Job-Seeking Tool

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce recently participated in the launch of the U.S. Department of Labor's new online job seeking tool, My Next Move. Through a conference call with the NGLCC and other vested parties, Secretary Hilda L. Solis, Department of Labor, discussed the benefits this new online tool will have for job seekers, including unemployed members of the LGBT community.

My Next Move is aimed at providing jobseekers with information on more than 900 occupations and can be accessed at http://mynextmove.dol.gov. Secretary Solis emphasized that students, first-time workers and those returning to the work force-many of whom are LGBT-will benefit most from the new tool.  Those seeking employment are able to utilize My Next Move as a way to explore possible careers and find local job openings as well as training opportunities.  My Next Move will provide jobseekers with the tools, information, and opportunities they need in order to build upon their previously acquired skills so that they may become the next generation of innovative entrepreneurs.

This site allows users to easily search for jobs by occupation, industry and through the use of the O*NET Interest Profiler, a sixty question survey that matches an individual's interests with suitable occupations.  Careers in growth industries, green jobs and Registered Apprenticeship Programs are additional categories through which users may filter their job search.

Secretary Solis stated, "The administration is committed to expanding opportunities for all Americans. That includes ensuring all workers - those with years of experience and those just entering the workforce - have the information they need to make informed career decisions and get good jobs."

As the direct link between business and the federal government, the NGLCC is proud to support the Department of Labor's efforts to increase employment options for diverse citizens.  The NGLCC's participation in the launch of this new tool demonstrates the administration's continued commitment to inclusiveness and expanding opportunities for all Americans, and follows the U.S. Department of Commerce's recent signing of a memorandum of understanding with the NGLCC that opens up billions of dollars in government contracts to certified LGBT owned businesses.
