On Wednesday the U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly for a stand-alone bill to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT), the oppressive law that has barred gays and lesbians from serving openly in the U.S. military.

This weekend, likely Sunday, the U.S. Senate will vote on the same bill that could repeal the discriminatory law once and for all. President Obama has been a vocal supporter of the repeal and will sign the bill into law if the Senate passes it.

NGLCC is asking all national and affiliate members to call their senators today to strongly encourage them to vote "yes" when the bill comes to the senate floor this weekend.

"It is vitally important that senators hear from their constituents today to vote ‘yes' on repeal," said Justin Nelson, co-founder and president of the NGLCC.

Nelson noted that the NGLCC and a coalition of LGBT advocacy and civil-rights organizations have worked hard to garner the 60 votes needed to pass a procedural hurdle that will allow for a vote.

"We are fairly confident that we have the votes to move past any attempts to filibuster the bill, but supporters of repeal—including the legions of LGBT-owned businesses across the country—must be sure by reinforcing our position with our senators," said Chance Mitchell, co-founder and CEO at the NGLCC.

Take time today to call your senators by dialing the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and asking to be transferred to their offices. Tell your senators to vote YES on repeal.
