At this year's NGLCC National Conference, LBT and allied women leaders will lead the discussion at several Women's Business Initiative (WBI) events.
Open to all conference attendees, the Leading the Way: Perspectives from Outstanding Women Leaders luncheon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18 and will include a roundtable panel of successful out and allied women leaders, who will share compelling insights on what it takes to succeed in the competitive world and how they shattered the lavender glass ceiling to become leaders in their respective industries.
"LBT and allied women are making more contributions in today's competitive world than ever before, and it's important that people hear from them about how they got to where they are today," said Victoria Fulkerson, vice president of supplier diversity and corporate relations at the NGLCC.
Confirmed to give the opening remarks at the luncheon is Kathleen Martinez, assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, who is also openly gay and visually impaired. The NGLCC has worked successfully throughout the last year with Sec. Martinez as the only LGBT participant group in the Department of Labor's Campaign for Disability Employment.
Some other women invited to speak at the event include Stacy Smithers, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Wells Fargo Bank Florida; Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisc.; and Catherine Pino, co-founder and principal of D&P Creative Strategies and NGLCC board of directors member.
NGLCC corporate partner Ernst & Young is the presenting sponsor of the luncheon and will moderate the roundtable discussion.
That evening, women conference attendees are invited to attend a WBI Networking Reception from 5 to 6 p.m., which will focus on out lesbian officials in the Obama administration and their important contributions in today's political climate.
