PrideRadio.com: Radio with a Gay Sensibility

Over the past few years, a variety of satellite and online radio stations targeting the LGBT market have come on the scene, with content ranging from dance music to talk radio. The latest addition to the mix is PrideRadio.com.

Launched by radio giant Clear Channel, PrideRadio.com is looking to serve the LGBT market by providing the hippest programming for its listeners, no matter where they are—online, at home, in their cars or walking down the street with their iPhones. By having these multiple "touch points" to the LGBT market, PrideRadio.com aims to claim the "top of mind" position in this cluttered media world.

It's not just its multimedia approach that sets PrideRadio.com apart. By tapping into Clear Channel's vast experience in music programming, PrideRadio.com is able to bring LGBT listeners the music that fits their lifestyles, including such LGBT favorites as Ryan & Caroline, the "Will & Grace" of popular radio.

PrideRadio.com integrates all its aspects of programming into one easy-to-use interface as well. Features include an up-to-date "Gayly" blog, photos and current LGBT news clips from local content partners around the world. What's unique is that each market that features PrideRadio.com has a customized version of the Web site, allowing for geo-targeting to specific markets for advertising and news.

Clear Channel's experience with real world events also allowed it to successfully team up with the producers of "Wicked" to offer couples the chance to be married on the "Wicked" stage, with cast members singing. It was a successful promotion that wowed listeners and advertisers.

PrideRadio.com's access to listeners was boosted significantly by the release of the "iheartradio" application for the iPhone and iTouch. This application puts PrideRadio.com and all of Clear Channel's online radio operations ahead of many of its competitors in new distribution methods for its content.

In the first two weeks, hundreds of thousands of consumers downloaded the application and now have access to PrideRadio.com through the iPhone or iTouch, reports Clear Channel. "We can now offer marketers an environment to get their message to the LGBT consumer via a variety of platforms and see the iPhone as a huge driver of online listening in the coming months," says PrideRadio.com's Director Brad Fuhr.
