Despite the general public's pessimistic view of the current job market, LGBT adults are more optimistic than their heterosexual counterparts.

A Harris Interactive survey of 2,509 U.S. adults, 336 of whom identified themselves as LGBT, conducted online between March 1 and March 8 in conjunction with National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce®-certified LGBTBE, Witeck-Combs Communications, Inc., found that 64 percent of LGBT adults rated their region's current job market as "bad," compared to 75 percent of heterosexual adults.

When asked to predict when the job market will begin to improve, 27 percent of LGBT adults said an upturn would happen within the next six months, while just 12 percent of heterosexual adults agreed.

As for overall outlook on the economy, 21 percent of LGBT adults, compared to just 10 percent of straight adults, believe the economy will begin to grow within the next six months. Twelve percent of LGBT and heterosexual adults were in agreement however, that the economy has already started to improve.

In the next six months, 32 percent of heterosexual adults said they expected their household's financial situation to be worse than it is now, compared to just 20 percent of LGBT adults. LGBT adults' optimism was further indicated by 27 percent anticipating that their financial situation will improve in the next six months, compared to 20 percent of heterosexual adults.
