SBA to Get $125M in Defense Spending Bill to Continue Funding Programs

Continuing its efforts to help small businesses, the Obama administration has successfully urged Congress to add emergency funds for the Small Business Administration (SBA) to the FY 2010 Defense Appropriations bill passed by the Senate last weekend.

After funds backing two SBA programs ran out this fall, the agency has received $125 million to continue to support the programs, which were originally part of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The new appropriations are expected to fund the programs through February.

"The more opportunity small businesses have to grow and thrive, the better off our economy will be," said National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce president and co-founder, Justin Nelson. "Additional funding to the SBA will help bring small businesses to the forefront of economic recovery."
