U.S. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), the distinguished chairman of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, will be the guest speaker at the 2008 NGLCC Diversity and Leadership in Financial Services Awards Dinner, to be held Dec. 18 at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

The NGLCC will recognize outstanding achievements in LGBT diversity and leadership in the financial services industry. The dinner is an outgrowth of last year's Wall Street Tribute to House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank at the NYSE.

"We are honored to have Chairman Frank with us once again to celebrate the contributions of the financial services community to diversity," says Justin Nelson, co-founder and president of the NGLCC. "Whether the areas are banking, insurance, real estate, housing, securities or equality, Chairman Frank has been a judicious and pragmatic advocate for his constituents and for citizens across this country."

The dinner comes at a particularly critical time for the financial services sector, with Wall Street still reeling from the mortgage meltdown and credit crunch. Chairman Frank has played and will continue to play an important leadership role in stabilizing the economic situation in the United States and globally.

"His leadership was essential in reaching consensus in Washington on a financial rescue package for Wall Street and the American economy," says Chance Mitchell, co-founder and CEO of the NGLCC. "The work of Chairman Frank and other courageous leaders in Washington created a path to stability for our economy and other economies around the world."

The 2008 awards include the following:

  • Financial Services Diversity Corporation of the Year;
  • Outstanding Corporate Leader;
  • Program or Initiative of the Year; and
  • Excellence in Outreach and Marketing.
