The Internet is a major source for information these days, but gay men and lesbians seem more likely to read blogs than their heterosexual counterparts.
In an online survey conducted by global market research and consulting firm, Harris Interactive, along with marketing communications firm specializing in the LGBT market, Witeck-Combs Communications, Inc. (an NGLCC certified LGBTBE), 54 percent of gay men and lesbians reported reading some type of blog, compared to 40 percent of heterosexual adults.
As for the types of blogs gay and lesbian Americans are reading, 36 percent read news and current event blogs, compared to just 25 percent of heterosexuals. Gay men and lesbians were also more likely to get their politics fix through blogs, with 22 percent reporting reading political blogs, compared to just 14 percent of heterosexuals.
"In today's uncertain economy, and with companies and organizations competing for share of attention, it is clear that blogs and social networking sites have not only come of age for gay America, but in many ways have become the virtual new gay community centers and marketplace," said Bob Witeck, CEO of Witeck-Combs Communications.
