Director of Meetings and Special Events
The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) is a dynamic and rapidly growing non-profit organization working to expand the economic opportunities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) owned businesses.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The NGLCC is seeking a self-motivated and energetic Director of Meetings and Special Events. The Director of Meetings and Special Events organizes and facilitates a wide range of conferences, meetings, and events for the organization. This position manages logistics, set-up and implementation of the NGLCC National Conference and is also responsible for vendor negotiation, conference registration, marketing, educational sessions, and on-site support. In addition, the Director of Meetings and Special Events is responsible for the NGLCC National Dinner and other signature events. This position is ideal for a candidate that is ready to move from manager to director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage all aspects of the National Conference, National Dinner and other NGLCC signature events
• Plan and execute council meetings and Board of Directors Annual Retreat
• Management and facilitation of various off-site meetings held throughout the year by various NGLCC departments and semi-annual staff retreats
• Vendor contract negotiations
• Soliciting items and execution of annual silent auction as a part of the National Dinner
• Attending industry events on behalf of the NGLCC to further meeting and events contacts
• Coordinate all plans for attendance as an exhibitor at major annual LGBT organizational conferences and diversity business conferences
• Support in facilitating local affiliate meetings, conferences, and seminars as needed
• Other tasks/projects as assigned by the executive team
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's Degree - with a preferred business emphasis (e.g. marketing)
• CMP certification
• Minimum three years related work experience
• Experience with hotel, catering and other supplier negotiations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to work with all levels of the organization, as a part of a team and individually
• Resourceful, independent, organized, and able to multi-task
• Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office software (focus on PowerPoint and Word) as well as desktop publishing packages and registration software

LGBT Certification Specialist

The NGLCC is currently seeking a full-time employee to serve as the LGBT Certification Specialist as a part of the NGLCC Supplier Diversity Initiative (SDI).
The NGLCC SDI is a top organizational initiative and a unique program that certifies LGBT owned businesses and works to integrate them into the diverse supply chains of America's top corporations.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The LGBT Certification Specialist is the direct point of contact for all business owners and entrepreneurs seeking certification as an LGBT Business Enterprise through the NGLCC. It is the responsibility of the LGBT Certification Specialist to cultivate new applicants for certification, assist applicants as they navigate the certification process, and maintain strong relationships with business owners after completing the certification process.
Additionally, the LGBT Certification Specialist is responsible for managing the training and scheduling of National and Regional Certification Committees and volunteers that play an integral role in the certification process. The LGBT Certification Specialist must be willing to travel domestically an average of 3-4 days each month to hold committee meetings and attend regional events. As a spokesperson for the program, the LGBT Certification Specialist should be an effective public speaker, excel in establishing and maintaining professional business relationships, and be enthusiastic about expanding opportunities for LGBT business owners and entrepreneurs.
The LGBT Certification Specialist must be able to work in a fast paced office environment with significant job responsibilities. This position requires the ability to work independently and as a team with other professionals. The position also requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to manage data, and ability to work within a regulatory environment. The NGLCC is seeking a professional willing to make a multi-year commitment to this position, as significant training and skill mastery development will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Report directly to the Department Director
• Direct outreach to potential certified LGBT Business Enterprises (LGBTBEs) that would benefit from certification as a part of the NGLCC Supplier Diversity InitiativeTM(SDI)
• Collect and review certification applications and files for compliance to the NGLCC SDI Standards and Procedures
• Provide technical services to certification applicants and certified LGBTBEs, including assistance with needed documentation for certification
• Work with NGLCC Corporate Partners and LGBT business owners to maintain database profile information, and support user access to the database
• Provide written and verbal instructions to businesses seeking certification regarding compliance to all applicable standards and procedures
• Communicate opportunities, news, and program updates to audiences
• Work with national and regional certification committees to process certification applications
• Ensure that physical files as well as database records are consistent and current
• Maintain communication with certified and potentially certified businesses
• Routine administrative tasks including filing, copying and mailing
• Work on special projects as deemed necessary by the Department Director
REQUIREMENTS:
• B.A./ B.S. degree or higher
• Minimum of two years experience in a professional office environment, preferably in supplier diversity or other business development related field
• Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
• Website content management skills
• Familiarity with database management
• Familiarity with social media platforms
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience speaking publicly in front of large and small groups

LGBT Supplier Diversity Initiative Fellow

The NGLCC Supplier Diversity InitiativeTM(SDI), is a top organizational initiative and a unique program that certifies LGBT owned businesses and works to integrate them into the diverse supply chains of America's top corporations.
The NGLCC is currently seeking a fellow for the SDI, a rapidly growing program that requires talented individuals to ensure its continued success. The Supplier Diversity Initiative Fellowship is designed to attract and retain a student or recent graduate for a 1-2 semester full or part time fellowship to support the NGLCC SDI departmental staff. Our goal is to encourage the development of a professional interested in promoting the importance of LGBT inclusion in corporate procurement and supplier diversity programs as they enter and continue through their career.
The LGBT Supplier Diversity Initiative Fellow will:
• Gain understanding of the LGBT business movement, especially in the realm of supplier diversity
• Meet and interact with corporate procurement decision-makers
• Review SDI applications for completeness
• Assist in marketing the benefits of certification to potentially certifiable and certified businesses
• Draft correspondence and communications to corporate and supplier audiences
• Assist in discovery and identification of new potentially certifiable businesses
• Assist in NGLCC Wells Fargo Business Owner of the Year Award program
• Schedule appointments for departmental staff/other administrative duties as assigned
Details:
• The fellowship is structured to last the duration of 1-2 university semesters, with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules
• Compensation will be in the form of a biweekly stipend

Internship Opportunities

Communicatons/lgbtbiz.com/Technology Internship
Substantive duties include assisting NGLCC staff in the development, design and support of NGLCC's web applications and online software, updating and maintaining the website, and further developing the web content. The Communications/lgbtbiz.com/ Technology Intern will assist with writing press releases, maintaining an archive of press clippings, and providing communications support for the various NGLCC programs and initiatives. In addition, this intern will work with our staff and the OmniStudio staff, who are the publishers of BIZ magazine, our online resource for LGBT business news and information. Duties could include article research, fact checking, interviews, proofing and editing. Ideal candidates are those with a combination of familiarity with Web 2.0 applications, html, graphic design, hardware, writing and copy editing, and an interest in journalism or public relations.
Corporate Relations Internship
The Corporate Relations intern will contribute to the development process of new corporate partnerships between the NGLCC and Fortune 500 companies while assisting in the relationship management of current partnerships. Duties will include researching the diversity and inclusion policies and practices of potential corporate partners; tracking news and data related to LGBT inclusion within corporate America; assisting in outreach and follow up with current corporate partners regarding upcoming events, meetings, and opportunities; conducting research for contribution to new corporate partnership programs; producing internal and external correspondence (letters, memos, etc.), and aiding in department record keeping.
Supplier Diversity Internship
The Supplier Diversity Initiative is a unique program which certifies LGBT-owned businesses and works to connect them with Fortune 500 companies (our Corporate Partners) and other LGBT-owned businesses across the country. The intern will be assigned highly substantive work which will include: Outreach toward certified and potentially certifiable businesses, working with the NGLCC's Corporate Partners to assist in searching our certified supplier database, and the development of policies and procedures for expanding the program. Interns with this program will assist in all aspects of the certification process for LGBT-owned companies and will support the department in presenting business development opportunities to LGBT-owned business.
Meetings & Events Internshp
The Events Intern will play a large role in the facilitation of the NGLCC's multiple signature events held throughout the year. Significant duties of this internship include soliciting and tracking silent auction items, coordinating event speakers and sessions, creating marketing materials, list managment, outreach to elected officials, and manipulating website information are just a few of the areas that the Events Intern can make an important impact with. In addition the Intern will assist the Meetings Department with conducting research, producing and distributing internal and external correspondence, and assisting with general departmental functions. Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, enjoy working with people, successfully multitask, be calm under pressure, express sound judgement and good taste, has strong communication skills, and be willing to put in extra hours during the critical days leading up to an event.
