Member Letter to Elected Officials

 Draft Text:

Employment Non-Discrimination Act

Dear [your representative’s name here],

I am writing today as a member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) to encourage you to support Employment Non-Discrimination Act legislation in the 111th Congress.  I would applaud the introduction of legislation that guarantees all hardworking Americans the fundamental right to do his or her job, contribute to society and do so without facing unjust discrimination.

Such legislation would prohibit workplace discrimination based on an employee’s sexual orientation or gender identity under federal law.  As you know, it is still legal to fire a person based on their sexual orientation in 33 states, and in 42 states it is legal to do so based on gender identity.  The time has come for all workers to receive equitable treatment under the law.

As my elected official, I ask you to show your leadership and ensure all hard working American citizens are protected in the work place.

Regards,
