Chambers Training Institute Builds Networks Across Diverse Local Chambers

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce has joined the Chamber Training Institute (CTI), sponsored by Wells Fargo Foundation, in association with the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USHCC) and the University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business. Intended to foster collaboration across diverse segments of the business community, CTI workshops bring together Local Affiliate Chambers leaders from NGLCC, USHCC, US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce (USPAACC), and National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC). CTI workshops promote best practices for local chamber leadership and members.

This month’s workshop was held in Dallas, January 13-14, and focused on “Coalition Building Across Diverse Chambers: Aligning Interests and Expanding Opportunity.” The event brought together local chamber leaders from across Texas, including Ruby Resendez, President of the San Antonio LGBT Chamber of Commerce, and Ceci Gratias, Vice President of the Austin Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (AGLCC). Sam McClure, NGLCC Vice President of Affiliate Relations & External Affairs, also attended the event and provided insight on how local chambers can build enduring relations with their national partners.
Resendez praised the Institute, particularly the sharing of ideas across diversity segments, saying
“The Chamber Training Institute was an intense two day learning experience where chamber leaders from various communities came together and shared working models and innovative ideas for building and maintaining effective partnerships across diverse segments of the small business community.  CTI has provided me with information to create enduring and productive relationships with other local chambers in San Antonio.  I appreciate NGLCC’s participation in CTI. It gave me the chance to attend this event. Resources and opportunities like this are what make the partnership between my Local Affiliate Chamber and NGLCC so beneficial.”
The Chamber Training Institute was developed in 2010, and is funded, in full, by Wells Fargo. The Institute functions in partnership with the University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business, which creates curricula based on the specific needs of chamber leadership and participants. CTI workshops are held bimonthly in various locales across the country.
The next CTI workshop will be March 23 and 24 in Washington, DC. The topic is "How to Create Strong and Valuable Relationships with Local Political Leaders." The event is free, but you must register by March 13th.
