For Immediate Release

(Washington, DC)  Today, the leadership of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) congratulated the Human Rights Campaign Workplace Project for their sixth annual successful release of the Corporate Equality Index (CEI).  The NGLCC noted that the CEI rates employers on a scale from 0 to 100 percent on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors.  “The Index’s unprecedented growth to include 195 major U.S. businesses with a rating of 100 percent score is phenomenal.  We are pleased to see this amazing growth continue as Corporate America strives to ensure LGBT employees, consumers, suppliers and investors are treated with respect,” said Justin Nelson, co-founder and President of the NGLCC.

The NGLCC specifically recognized those companies with a perfect score of 100 who the organization works with to actively utilize certified LGBT businesses in their diverse supply chains including: IBM; American Express; Ernst & Young, LLP; Intel Corp.; Lehman Brothers Holdings; Motorola; Travelport; Accenture; Cisco Systems; ING; Johnson & Johnson; Marriott International Inc.; Merck & Co. Inc.; and Morgan Stanley.

“These companies have proven that going above and beyond the expected makes excellent business sense.  Not only are these companies working very hard to ensure that their employees are well protected, but they are also working to make sure that their supply chains reflect the employee and customer base they already have or the employee and customer base they are trying to attract,” said co-founder and CEO Chance Mitchell.
