(April 3, 2008) Today the NGLCC announced that the organization has been named the 2008 recipient of the National Leadership Award from the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF). The Award will be presented at the NGLTF New York Leadership Awards on April 7th, 2008. The event will take place in New York City at the New York Times Center.

In a letter to the NGLCC, NGLTF Executive Director Matt Foreman wrote "Your hard work over the last five years, your consistent advocacy for diversity in the workplace, your work on behalf of nondiscrimination policies and protections, and your opening an office in New York City this spring have certainly earned the Chamber this award."

Past recipients of the NGLTF's Leadership Award include Senators Russell Feingold and Ted Kennedy, Julian Bond, Chairman of the Board of the NAACP, Bishop Gene Robinson, former South African President Nelson Mandela and the late Mrs. Coretta Scott King. The NGLCC will be joined by additional awardees filmmaker John Waters and New York Lieutenant Governor David Paterson at the New York Leadership Awards Dinner.

"We are so pleased to accept this award from the NGLTF on behalf of the LGBT business community. It speaks volumes that the LGBT business movement is being recognized for its value within the broader LGBT equality movement. We thank the Task Force for this great honor!" said Justin Nelson, Co-Founder and President of the NGLCC.
