NGLCC Announces Partnership with U.S. Treasury Department

6/22/2006

(Washington, DC) The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) is pleased to announce that it has become an official partner of Simplify, a national initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The NGLCC has partnered with the Simplify campaign to communicate to its small business membership the benefits of paying federal taxes electronically through the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS).

“The NGLCC’s partnership with the U.S. Treasury Department represents a unique opportunity for our organization to help our members stay competitive in today’s increasingly electronic marketplace,” said NGLCC Co-Founder and President Justin G. Nelson. Nelson further stated, “EFTPS simplifies the federal tax payment process and allows members to invest their time where it counts—building their businesses”. NGLCC members can use EFTPS to make federal tax payments in fewer than 3 minutes and spend less time out of the office. Also, EFTPS protects taxpayer privacy by requiring unique pieces of information about each taxpayer only known to him or her.

The NGLCC first shared the Simplify campaign with its regional chamber affiliate leadership in April at the NGLCC’s Midwest LGBT business conference in Minneapolis. Over the next several months, the NGLCC will be working with the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Simplify campaign to educate businesses about the benefits of EFTPS through in-person seminars, webinars, and member communications.

Since its inception in 1996, EFTPS has processed more than 532 million transactions and $12.7 trillion in payments. All federal tax payments, including corporate, excise and employment taxes as well as 1040 quarterly estimated tax payments, can be made through EFTPS through a variety of methods, including the Internet and a telephone voice-response system. The NGLCC hopes its members will use EFTPS in order to have greater accuracy, security and convenience when making federal tax payments.
