Washington, DC (March 1, 2010) - The NGLCC has long recognized the important contributions of women business leaders and appreciates the difficulties faced by women in the LGBT business community. During this month dedicated to the historical achievements of women, the NGLCC invites its members to celebrate contemporary female leaders and learn more about the Women's Business Initiative (WBI).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women owned 6.5 million U.S. businesses in 2002, employing over 7 million Americans and earning $939.5 billion in revenue. WBI seeks to provide networking and educational opportunities to LBT and allied business owners, professionals and students of business across the globe. As a benefit for members at the National Level, the Women's Business Initiative is a meeting place for LBT and allied women to share and garner ideas and advice, network, and grow professionally.

The 2010 WBI Teleconference Series began this month with an exclusive conversation with Representative Carolyn Maloney about her experiences in U.S. Congress and her new book, Rumors of Our Progress Have Been Greatly Exaggerated.

"It's important to take time to reflect on the successes of women business leaders. Through the WBI, we invite members to join us throughout the year for educational and networking opportunities specifically for women in the LGBT business community," said Victoria Fulkerson, NGLCC director of supplier diversity and corporate relations.

Become a fan of NGLCC WBI on Facebook to connect with LBT and allied women in the business community and to find out more about exciting opportunities throughout the year such as the WBI Teleconference Series and NGLCC National Business and Leadership Conference: Out for Business! programming.
