FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 1, 2010 - Today, the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce® (NGLCC) was pleased to announce the opportunity for two certified LGBT Business Enterprise (LGBTBE) owners to attend Executive Education Programs at the Dartmouth College Amos Tuck School of Business on scholarship. Only available to currently certified LGBTBEs and funded by NGLCC corporate partners Ernst & Young and Aetna, these scholarships are designed to strengthen the management skills of LGBTBE owners whose success could be enhanced by attending educational seminars and to foster the economic empowerment of LGBT-owned businesses. Applications for scholarships are being accepted through Wednesday, September 1st 2010.
"We believe education is another way to invest in your company's future success and Tuck provides a really robust program with a proven track record. At Aetna we want to provide a resource to our suppliers and potential suppliers to ensure we have a viable pipeline of suppliers. This scholarship is just one way we accomplish that goal." said Kristen Hickey, Supplier Diversity Manager at Aetna and NGLCC Procurement Council scholarship subcommittee chair.
Two scholarship recipients will take part in the November 2010 class of the Tuck School of Business Executive Education's Building a High-Performing Minority Business program. After a week of coursework and team exercises covering topics including strategy, accounting, operations, marketing, and more, business owners graduate the program with a well-stocked business development toolkit, as well as a strong network of support and potential partners.
"Many certified LGBTBEs are at an exciting tipping point in the evolution of their business plans," said Joanna Dees, NGLCC Manager of Supplier Diversity and Corporate Relations. "The information covered in Tuck's Building a High-Performing Minority Business course allows for businesses to dramatically grow their market and product reach efficiently and effectively."
