July 17, 2008 (Washington, DC) -- Today the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) applauded last week’s Senate approval of an additional $107 million in funding for federal small-business programs overseen by the Small Business Administration.

The bill boosts funding for some of the agency’s core programs by as much as 50 percent. The NGLCC noted that Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) was correct in his declaration that the sluggish economy is making it very hard for small businesses to access the capital and counseling they need to succeed. “This funding boost would go a long way in helping many small businesses that are feeling the pinch of a tightening economy, “ said NGLCC Co-Founder and CEO Chance Mitchell.

“We are encouraged by the Senate’s move to provide additional funding to American small businesses,” said NGLCC Co-Founder and President Justin Nelson. “Small businesses are what keep America’s engine running, and this funding will ensure that we continue forward on a path of success.”
